Policy Commitees

NLIHC is seeking members interested in joining one of its four policy advisory committees. These committees meet regularly by teleconference to discuss various policy issues, provide input on NLIHC’s policy agenda, and make policy recommendations to NLIHC’s board, which sets NLIHC policy. The committees also provide guidance to NLIHC for our annual conference. Each committee is each chaired by a member of NLIHC’s board and staffed by a member of NLIHC’s policy team.

If you are interested in serving on one of NLIHC’s committees, please email linda@nlihc.org and include which committee interests you the most. Members of the policy advisory committees are officially appointed by NLIHC’s Board Chair. All committee members must be members of NLIHC.

Resident Issues. All issues that of specific concern to current and future residents of federally assisted housing, including, but not limited to:

  • Rents/rent simplification
  • Affordability standards (Brooke)
  • Income and population targeting
  • Resident participation and ROSS
  • Relocation
  • One strike and other eviction issues
  • Community service
  • Discrimination, fair housing, (immigration, source of income)
  • Housing counseling
  • Voucher portability
NLIHC Policy Advisory Committees

Saving Housing Resources. All resources that contribute to the retention of the existing supply of affordable housing and affordable housing assistance, including but, not limited to:

Rural preservation

Lead safety

Housing Choice Vouchers

Shelter plus Care
This committee is chaired by Brenda Clement and is staffed by Danna Fischer, NLIHC.

Permanent Supportive Housing

Other McKinney Vento programs including ESG and EFSG
This committee is chaired by Donald Chamberlain and is staffed by Melissa Quirk, NLIHC.
Policy Advisory Committee Chairs. The Chairs of the policy advisory committees meet monthly to discuss the work of the committees, review policy issues that may intersect with NLIHC’s policy agenda and mission, and to plan future committee discussions. The work of the policy advisory committee chairs is staffed by Linda Couch, NLIHC.
